Situation
BayState Business Brokers’ Bil Zarch was introduced to the owners of Oishii Boston, famed restaurateurs Ting and Jackie Yen, by a contact in the restaurant industry. After nearly 30 years in business, the owners were ready for the next step in their journey, retirement.
For years, Oishii had been a popular spot in Boston’s South End, a common destination for first dates and special occasions.
BayState Business Brokers’ Approach
Bil Zarch developed a targeted strategy of taking Oishii to market with a priority of reaching out to a select list of local restaurateurs. With a loyal clientele and an ideal location in Boston’s artistic South End, the restaurant and associated real estate presented a unique opportunity for the right buyer.
Zarch was successful in connecting with and identifying strong prospective buyers for Oishii Boston. The owner of Karma Asian Fusion emerged as the ideal buyer to extend their restaurants from upscale Boston area suburbs to add an ideal location in the city. They also own Yoshida Omikase in the Back Bay.
Karma owner, Iverson Guo, was honored to have the opportunity to acquire Oishii, having deep respect for chef Ting Yen.
The logistics of the sale proceeded smoothly as Zarch coordinated all facets of the details including the liquor license, real estate closing, and inventory counts.
Results
The newest Karma restaurant is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2026 as renovations are complete. The new owners hope this special location that was the former home of Oishii Boston will remain a popular go-to location for unique Asian cuisine experiences and special occasions. They are excited to have a restaurant in the South End.
The sellers are moving on to retirement, grateful for the decades of memories created at Oishii Boston and for the loyal support of its patrons.
