Floral Shop

Situation
This fourth generation owned floral shop in Farmington, Connecticut dates back to 1905. The owners’ son-in-law had initially reached out to BayState Business Brokers as he was looking to buy a business. He spoke with business broker John Brice about business listings and at the time nothing worked out.
When his in-laws started talking about retiring and had exhausted assessing if anyone in the family wanted to take over the business, the son-in-law reconnected with business broker John Brice to introduce him to his in-laws to help them sell their business.
BayState Business Brokers’ Approach
As John Brice developed the strategy to market the floral shop, he advised the sellers that the business would be more attractive to include the real estate in the sale. At the time, the owners lived upstairs from the shop and were hesitant about selling the building.
Brice cast a wide net to draw interest in the floral shop, seeking to find the right fit for an individual owner to buy and run the business, emphasizing the brand presence of a business that had been a fixture in the community for more than 120 years! Packaging the business and the real estate attracted an ideal buyer.
Results
The buyer had been looking for a community-based business where he could work close to his home. He now can walk around the corner (literally) to work and his goal of a community-based business was easily reached with this fourth-generation business! While the buyers’ goals were exceeded, the sellers too achieved their goal of entering the next phase of their lives in retirement knowing the shop and real estate were in good hands.
The son-in-law is now buying another business through BayState Business Brokers, so a successful ending was achieved for all involved.
