Business Broker
Situation
The owner conducted an online search for a business broker as he considered selling. He found BayState Business Brokers and was connected to broker John Brice. Brice prepared a valuation for the owner who decided he wanted to take the next year to drive its value. A year later, he reconnected with business broker Brice to prepare his consulting franchise with two territories in Hopkinton, MA and in Vermont for sale.
BayState Business Brokers’ Approach
This franchise offered consulting services specializing in business and structural engineering. As Brice developed the strategy for taking the business to market, he knew he wanted to attract buyers with an engineering background and buyers open to buying a franchise.
The franchisor was motivated to support marketing these two territories as they were profitable, and he wanted them to remain active.
Early in the process, a cash offer was secured and the listing was inactivated. Unfortunately, the deal fell through. Brice revisited his targeted buyers from the vast BayState Business Brokers database to reignite interest focused on finding the right fit for the business size and geographic territories.
Two co-buyers emerged as an ideal fit as they were mid-career guys with engineering backgrounds who had worked together and were looking to acquire businesses. One guy was specifically looking to buy a job to replace his current full-time job.
Brice quarterbacked the process through due diligence and finalizing franchise agreements to get ready for close.
Results
The seller was pleased to have taken a year to drive value in his business as his efforts paid off. The buyers expanded their business portfolio with one buyer being able to resign his position to take over leading the continued success of these two territories, providing peace of mind for the franchisor.
What Our Clients Say
I had a good experience working with John at BayState Business Brokers. Although he was representing the seller in the transaction, I found him to be fair, professional, and solutions-oriented throughout the process. He did an excellent job maintaining momentum and keeping the deal moving forward, which is critical in any acquisition.
What I appreciated most was that John served as a voice of reason when needed—pushing back on both sides when expectations became unrealistic and helping ensure we stayed focused on getting to the finish line.
I would absolutely recommend John to anyone considering selling their business, and I would not hesitate to work with him again on future acquisitions through BayState.
